This evening, Ben and I went out on a date. We FINALLY got to celebrate our 5 Year Wedding Anniversary. It was so nice to get out, and we tried out a new babysitter too. Her name is Sam, and we LOVED her(and so did Cruz).
We had tickets to see Amy Schumer, so we first headed out to dinner. We went to this place called Angel's Trumpet Ale House. They are known for their local craft beers. I had wine out of a keg! It tasted the same as it would out of a bottle.
The food was AMAZING. We split a flat-bread pizza with flavored olive oil, goat cheese, leeks, and salami. Ben was not sure if he liked it at first, but it grew on him. We also got an order of Spam Sliders. I never thought I would EVER try Spam, but I gave it a whirl. It was served fried on Hawaiian rolls, with cranberry coleslaw and blue cheese. I was very impressed, although I can't say I will be buying any for the house anytime soon.
After that, we headed to The Duce for a quick drink before the show. It was so cute inside. It was a huge warehouse with memorabilia from Phoenix high schools(like bleachers and a boxing ring). They had Cornhole, Ping Pong tables, and Foosball. Ben and I got in a quick game of Cornhole before having to race out of there for the show.
We did not get any food, but it was served out of an old Airstream, and has even been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for their Macaroni and Cheese Balls. I would love the go back. They had these humongous picnic type tables that held a ton of people, but decorated like Martha Stewart. The atmosphere was so cool! Here is a photo of us at the Duce.
Amy Schumer was hilarious, and we did not stop laughing the entire time. It was so good to get out and do something just the two of us. Things have been so crazy with all the sickness and Ben studying, that we will definitely need to make time to do this more often. I would love to get a sitter every once in a while on a weeknight so we can try out some cute places downtown, just for dinner! There is lots of yummy and cool places out there to try!

"Spring Break!"
So, today Cruz was finally feeling better, so thankfully we were able to head to visit Ryan and Danielle. I ended up having to miss Danielle's Baby Shower last Sunday because I had the flu, so we went to their house for breakfast so I could give Danielle her gift. It was so nice seeing both of them. Danielle is due on April 4th with her first baby.
On the way to Danielle's, Kim invited us to go to the Air Show at Luke Air Force Base. So, we thought, "why not?" We made plans to go later in the afternoon.
After Danielle's, we headed to the mall nearby to go to Children's Place. Cruz was in need of some jeans as he had outgrown all of his pants. He is getting so tall all of a sudden. On the way to the mall, it occurred to me that we were near where Cori and Ashley lived. A few texts later, we had lunch plans to meet them after the mall. We met them at Portillo's in Tempe. It was super yummy, and so nice to see both of them. It is something we need to do more often, that is for sure.
After lunch, we made a quick stop at Walgreens for some Baby Sunscreen and sunglasses for Cruz. Then, it was off to the Air Show! The traffic was crazy, but Ben found a spot right on the side of the road, and we stared walking. It was quite a hike to actually get to the entrance...and also it was a million degrees! Thankfully, we still had the umbrellas in the car from the zoo, and they sure came in handy keeping the sun blocked a bit. Once we got in, we found a shady spot to rest while we waited for Kim. Cruz was happy to get out of the stroller and walk around. He even met a friend.
Once we met up with Kim, it was another long walk to the actual show area. We came on the perfect day as it was the last day and the Thunderbirds would be performing. It was such a neat show. Cruz was very interested, but scared a few times by the noise. After the show, we walked around looking at the airplanes. Kim's boyfriend works for Luke, so he gave us a personal tour. It meant so much more than just looking at the big planes and wondering what they were!
It was a very full and busy day, but I am so glad we were able to do all that we did. I miraculously had just enough snacks and food for Cruz to last us, and we now know we can do crazy, impromptu days out like this again!

Back at the Doctors...
We headed back to the doctor's office today. When the triage nurse called us yesterday, she scheduled Cruz another appointment. He really was not getting any better.
He was a champ today at the doctor and actually did not cry one bit. We saw the same woman we saw the other day, and you could tell he really likes her. She is great with kids. I definitely want to see her the next time.
She prescribed a steroid to add onto the antibiotic to hopefully kick all of this sickness. She said possibly he may have had a touch of pneumonia judging by the fact he was still sick. We got a doctor's note to be able to return to school on Monday. He is only as contagious as a cold now. So here's hoping this steroid works!
Ben also had the day off, so it was nice to have another pair ears to hear what she had to say. I never imagined we would be spending a Wedding Anniversary at the Doctor's Office! Luckily we already have plans to officially go out on March 25th! Happy 5 years to us!

The Many Faces of Bridget
We had some fun with Bridget and the Mr. Potato Head pieces. She looks so sad in these pictures, but you know she loved all of the attention she was getting.
Here is one of Cruz making a very large mess. You can tell he has been cooped up too long!

Bridget and Family Movie Night!
Today, we just laid low so Cruz could get some rest. Never before has Cruz ever watched this much TV, but that was all he felt up to doing. I do have to say, I have LOVED all of the extra cuddles!
Our only outing was to take Bridget to the groomer this morning. This was the first time Cruz had taken her in with me. He was so upset as we were leaving because he realized that Bridget was not coming with us. It was so quiet without her today.
When we picked her up later on, you would have thought it was Christmas morning. He was so happy to see his puppy. He even held onto her tail most of the way home and would not stop saying her name. He was beyond obsessed with her the rest of the day. I really think he missed her!
We also watched our first Family Movie. Dumbo was on Netflix, so we decided to give it a whirl. Cruz was interested for about 25 minutes, but it was actually perfect because it was time for him to go to bed anyways. Ben was beyond shocked I was singing along to most all of the songs. Some things just stick with you!

Doctor Day!
Cruz got worse as the day went on yesterday, and the breathing treatments were not helping. He sounded like a purring cat as he was breathing. So, we were able to get into the doctor this morning.
The appointment was almost an hour and a half long. He had a temperature of 100.2...and I had no idea! The doctor was unsure if the crackling she heard in his lungs was pneumonia, so we had to do a breathing treatment in the office. That was a challenge trying to entertain him through that. Luckily, there was an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on my phone. It helped the slightest bit, but it was better he was screaming because he got some good, deep breaths of medicine.
Thankfully, his lungs sounded better after the treatment(just bronchitis), so he was given some antibiotics, and we were told we would be getting a call from the triage nurse on Thursday to see if things were getting any better. Let's hope things get better!

First Official Day of Spring Break
This morning, I was doing everything I could possibly think of to keep Mr. Cruz busy. He was not in a very good mood and would not play by himself. I think we may be in for a trip to the Doctor tomorrow! Here are a couple activities that kept him busy.

Snapping the Asparagus
I borrowed a nice step stool from work so Cruz could help in the kitchen and be able to reach the bathroom sink. He got a little crazy with the stool being in the bathroom, and was LOVING playing in the water...so I had to remove it. But, we did however, use the stool this evening so he could help prepare the asparagus. He did a wonderful job snapping off the ends. Too bad he was not interested in eating it after it was roasted!

Grass or a Jungle?
I swear the grass did not look like this a few days ago. From all the rain last weekend, a jungle has grown in our backyard. It was so funny watching Cruz and Bridget maneuver through it! Please know Ben promptly mowed the lawn the next day!
| I think he looks like the girls from the opening credits of the Little House on the Prairie! |
| Oops....Mom forgot to check if the seat was wet! |

Student of the Week
Cruz is Student of the Week at Daycare this week. We had to bring in pictures of things he likes for the Bulletin Board, a Favorite Book(Dinosaur ROAR!), and his teacher filled out a survey for him. She asked him the questions, and recorded what he said.
His teacher forgot to let me know Friday, so I found out Monday after school. That night, I was running out to Walgreen's after he went to bed to pick up pictures and then to the Dollar Tree for Construction Paper to mount them on. Oh man, this is just a taste of what is to come! The board turned out really cute though! Too bad the only people who will see/understand what it is are the adults who walk by!

Wildlife Zoo
Today we headed to the Wildlife Zoo. We were not sure if we were not going to make it due to the weather. It was raining this morning, had stopped, but the clouds were still looming. We weren't going to let it bring us down. We got there right when they opened, and we were literally the second family to walk in. It was a dream! The animals were very active and interested in us, and it was so nice not to dodge the crowds. It was so quiet and peaceful.
It started raining just as we entered the new African Safari Park. It was nuts; and pouring! We luckily had umbrellas but Cruz refused to have the sun shade cover the stroller, so he quickly got wet, but he LOVED it! We quickly headed to the indoor aquarium. It was a nice relief from being wet.
Then, we ended up eating lunch at Dillon's Barbecue, a restaurant inside the zoo. It was crazy busy, and the most people we saw all day! The day was quite an adventure, and we were so glad we braved the weather. I love family time!
